same book, new chapter

Back in 2012, we did a series of posts sharing a journey we were beginning.

(Check out THIS POST written by Zack in 2012 that summarizes, or THIS LINK that has the series of posts). In those posts, we announced to friends and family – and the occasional random reader – that we were relocating to Norway. And more specifically, to Oslo.

Our first day in Oslo – February 2013

But sometimes, plans change. We often convince ourselves of what we think is best, yet reality does not always go that same direction. It reminds me of a proverb from the Bible:

A man’s heart plans his way,
but the Lord determines his steps.
Proverbs 16:9

We made plans. We set our minds and hearts on a place and a plan. And in the months leading up to our travels, God reminded us that we should always keep our minds and hearts on Him, and trust His plans. God had determined our steps, and those steps led us to a different part of Norway.

In February 2013, we landed in Norway. Instead of settling into Oslo, we moved to Sandefjord. There were ‘practical’ reasons why we ended up there. But regardless of those details, God has been so good in our time in this town. We’ve made lifelong friends, we’ve seen people’s lives changed through Jesus, and we’ve been personally encouraged and challenged in numerous ways.

It has been an amazing 8 years. Of course, it hasn’t all been perfect. We’ve also gone through some heavy seasons, some heartbreak, and some loss. But through it all, we have been surrounded by friends and God has never left us.

We are winding down this chapter where we are in Sandefjord full-time. Our hearts are full, and we are grateful.

As for what is next, we are about to begin a new chapter. In late June, we will head to the states for about 6 months. And at the end of 2021, we will return to Norway, relocating to Oslo.

When we packed up and left the states in late 2012, we thought we would spend a few months in Vancouver (Canada) and then move to Oslo in early 2013. I guess it just took us a bit longer than we planned to get there!

  1. Your mom told me a couple if weeks ago you’d be back for 6 months. Maybe we can get together while you’re here. Congratulations on your move. I’m assuming Oslo is a big city . Don’t know much about Norway. The kids ok with changing schools? Do they graduate after 12 years? Any college plans? Safe travels Sweet Girl. Hope to see you! ❤
